What is TNR?
"TNR" stands for "Trap, Neuter, Release". TNR is very important to keep down the population of the stray cat community, whose numbers are getting larger every day. Many cats that are trapped are considered "feral", meaning they are wild animals and cannot live in a home, and would be happiest to be put back outside. TNRed cats that have been returned to the outdoors get their ear tipped, so they can be identified as a cat that has already been trapped. Most TNR rescues or programs will provide other veterinary services as well, such as rabies vaccinations, deworming, antibiotics, emergency veterinary care, flea medication and preventative, abortions, etc. Cats too sick to go back out are humanely euthanized. Often, adult cats that are not completely wild and just do not prefer people, also known as "semi-feral", can be adopted out as barn cats. Barn cats are provided food and shelter, and in return help with mouse and rat issues in the barn. Very friendly cats, and most kittens, are usually adopted out to loving homes instead of being returned outdoors.
